Criteria
Firstly, for a hotel to make it to this list it has to be categorized as, at the very least, a 3-star hotel. Apart-hotels (apartment hotels) and self-catering cottages do not qualify for this list. Seeing that we are looking at hotels in Mombasa, they should be beachfront hotels to qualify for this list. We also took into consideration the value for money aspect. For example, a resort offering an all-inclusive package at more or less the same price point as one offering a half board package will make it to the list based on its value for money aspect. Finally, we thought it best to separate North Coast and South Coast resorts as rates in the South Coast (Diani) will doubtless be higher than rates in the North Coast. Call it the ‘Diani Effect.’ Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get right into it and list cheap hotels in Mombasa with a swimming pool.
North Coast
Plaza Beach Hotel (3-star)
Plaza Beach Hotel is a 3-star hotel situated along Bamburi Beach. The resort is a family-owned facility and has 88 rooms. The rooms are decorated in blue and yellow hues. Of course, it has a swimming pool and direct beach access.
One unique thing about Plaza Beach Hotel is that the rates do not fluctuate throughout the year depending on the season. Rates are fixed (though at the discretion of the hotel) from the 4th of January to the 20th of December. However, the rates rise during the festive season.

Bamburi Beach Hotel (3-star)
Set on Bamburi Beach, Bamburi Beach Hotel is one of the North Coast’s most famous beach resorts and for good reasons. Firstly, it has not one but two free-form swimming pools. Secondly, the hotel offers an all-inclusive option. With 150 en-suite rooms, Bamburi Beach Hotel is a fairly large property with plenty of facilities.

Neptune Beach Resort is set along Bamburi Beach and is one of the most affordable 4-star resorts in the North Coast. It also offers an all-inclusive package. The resort is part of the Neptune group of hotels. There are 78 rooms at this facility and it would not have made it to this list without a swimming pool.

Amani Tiwi Beach Resort (4-star)
Amani Tiwi Beach Resort is a 4-star facility set on a private section of Diani Beach. Considering its status, Amani Tiwi Beach Resort offers up a compelling case for being one of the most value-for-money type of resort in the South Coast. The resort also offers an all-inclusive package.
This 209-room resort has a breathtaking 167-meter swimming pool. The swimming pool alone is a value for money statement. Kids below 3 years of age stay free of charge. Diani Sea Lodge and Diani Sea Resort (3-star)
These two sister resorts are quite similar, especially in pricing. Both are located along Diani Beach. Their key selling point is that they are all-inclusive resorts. Kids below 2 years of age stay free of charge. They both have approximately 170 rooms.

Diani Reef Beach Resort and Spa makes it to this list on being far more affordable than other 5-star establishments. This 143-room resort is, as its name suggests, set along Diani Beach. Rates remain the same (at the discretion of the resort) throughout the year and only go up during the Festive Season. Furthermore, kids below 5 years of age stay free of charge. Of course, it has a pool. Some of its rooms even come with Jacuzzis.

Honorable Mentions
Kenya’s coast has plenty of world-class resorts at competitive rates. While the resorts listed above, in our opinion, are cheap hotels in Mombasa with a swimming pool, a few others deserve honorable mentions. Namely Kaskazi Beach Resort (4-star), Neptune Village Beach Resort (4-star), and Baobab Beach Resort and Spa (4-star).
