Cold and gloomy weather can put a damper on your vacation plans. This kind of weather is not good for sunbathing on exotic beaches or game viewing on wild safaris. However, the show must go on and there are lots more vacation ideas to beat the cold weather and here’s five.

1. SPAS AND STEAM ROOMS

Nairobi alone is dotted with quite a number of spas and some of them come with steam rooms. Take Serenity Spa, for example, that has 3 steam rooms in two different locations in Nairobi. Steam rooms are great for detoxification, great for relaxation, and for all intents and purposes a good way to keep warm in cold weather while having fun and staying healthy. Inside a steam room, one will know nothing about the biting cold outside and is one good idea for a fun vacation activity. Oh, and one does not even have to leave the city.

2. OLKARIA GEOTHERMAL SPA

However, if you are up for a little road trip Olkaria Geothermal Spa is the next best thing. The spa is located inside Hell’s Gate and that name alone is enough to warm you up a little bit. KenGen manages the spa and it is the largest natural spa on the continent. Furthermore, the spa is family friendly as apart from the massive adult pool there is also a baby pool for the kids. The water is warm and heavenly and is filled with natural minerals that are therapeutic for the skin. This is yet another way to enjoy your vacation while beating the cold and staying warm.

3. ICE SKATING

Ice skating is perhaps not the best way to beat the cold. In fact, it is quite the opposite. However, if the cold weather reminds you of the winter season in western countries then why not partake in one of the most popular winter activities, ice skating. Located along Mombasa Road the Panari Hotel Ice Skating Rink is one of a kind in eastern and central Africa. Take ice skating and hockey lessons in a real winter environment where ice temperature is as low as -25°C and the air temperature inside the hall is 12°C. The rink is safe even for kids and is an ideal fun-filled activity for a family vacation.

4. VISIT A MUSEUM

Museums are often overlooked as part of one’s vacation itinerary but they are fun and educational. There are several places of historical interest within Nairobi such as Nairobi National Museum, Kenya National Archives, and the Karen Blixen Museum. Museums are a good place to spark interest in the country’s history among the younger generation and can be quite insightful for adults too. Some items on display are very eye-catching and will definitely pique one’s interest.

5. FLY TO DUBAI

While it may be cold here it is certainly hot in the City of Gold. Dubai has emerged as one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, especially among Kenyans. Traveling to Dubai is definitely on the bucket list of many Kenyans. Thankfully, traveling to this magical destination is becoming more and more affordable and within the reach of many Kenyans. There are lots of fun activities to do in Dubai including parachuting, mounting the Burj Khalifa for a scenic view of the city, sand dune bashing in a 4*4, and simply enjoying the sun on its exotic beaches. That is one sure way to escape the cold in Nairobi.

All said and done, happy vacationing in this cold weather.
