Amboseli Sopa Lodge is located on the outskirts of Amboseli National Park on 200 acres of private land. The lodge is a mere 20-minute drive from the park. It has a rustic feel to it and has a clear view of Mt. Kilimanjaro. A wooded garden forms the grounds of the lodge with various trees rising from the garden. Several bird species, monkeys, mongoose, and the occasional gazelle can be spotted within the lodge hence creating a seamless integration with the surrounding ecosystem.
Amboseli Sopa Lodge has 83 rooms spaced out on the garden grounds. All the rooms are brightly colored and tastefully adorned with Maasai-themed works of art. Most of the rooms either have one king-size bed or two queen-size beds. A few rooms can be converted to triple rooms upon request while a few more have interconnecting doors making them ideal for families, especially with kids. There are at least two rooms that are wheelchair-accessible. A honeymoon suite is also available. Finally, there is a two-bedroom presidential suite that is extremely spacious. The suite also comes with a private dining area and kitchenette.
The main dining area is the Kibo Restaurant. Kibo Restaurant’s architectural design draws inspiration from traditional Maasai housing as it is a round hut-like building. It is named after Mt. Kilimanjaro’s highest peak. Another dining area is the Mawenzi Terrace which is set up under the shade of a mammoth acacia tree. Beneath the canopy of the acacia tree is a buffet table and a barbecue grill.
There are three bars at Amboseli Sopa Lodge that keep the drinks flowing namely the Mawenzi Bar, Hemingway’s Bar, and the pool bar.
Other Amenities and Activities
Amboseli Sopa Lodge has a swimming pool, a gift shop, an open-air local craft market, TV in the main bar, and Wi-Fi in public areas. There are also two conference rooms with the larger one holding up to 110 guests seated theatre style.
Doubtless, the main attraction is the game drives. Bush dining, nature walks, and board games are other activities that one can indulge in at the lodge.
